Sportfishing is your passion. Catering to you is ours.
Texas’ most exciting bay sportfishing action will be just outside your front door at Mariner’s Point. It’s well-known that the jetties surrounding the nearby Brazos-Santiago Pass offer the best tarpon fishing in the state.
GULF OF MEXICO DEEP SEA FISHING
The Texas state record for blue marlin was taken offshore from South Padre Island, weighing in at 876 ½ pounds.
Needless to say, deep sea fishing here in the Gulf of Mexico is some of the finest in the world. As a resident of Mariner’s Point, you’ll be just 15 to 20 minutes from mahi mahi, wahoo, red snapper, amberjack, cobia, grouper, and shark. And you’re only 49 miles to the 100-fathom curve, teaming with a wide assortment of billfish, such as marlin, sailfish, swordfish, shark, and tuna.
What’s more, the scenery is just as spectacular as the sport. The Gulf of Mexico waters are every bit as beautiful as those you’ll find in the Caribbean.
Altogether, the fishing and the surroundings make the Gulf an idyllic and productive site for the deep sea sportfishing enthusiast.
LAGUNA MADRE BAY FISHING
Talk to anyone who’s fished the Laguna Madre, and without exception, you’ll hear that it’s truly one of the best spots for bay fishing in the Southwest. It has been reported that there are more fish per acre here than in any other bay on the Texas Gulf.
One major reason is that within the clean, clear waters of the Laguna Madre, you’ll find a wide range of gamefish, such as speckled trout, snook, and redfish along with flounder, black drum, and croaker. The lush carpet of sea grasses provides the perfect habitat for baitfish and gamefish.
Typically, those who fish the Laguna Madre drift with artificial lures. Less experienced anglers and younger guests often have more success with live bait. If you’re fairly experienced with baitcasting or spincasting equipment, you’ll enjoy drifting the grassflats by throwing topwater lures and other artificials as you cruise for fish. For large trout and redfish, wadefishing is a viable option.
In addition, sightcasting for trout and redfish is available for flycasters or conventional tackle anglers. This type of fishing has proven to be most popular in back lakes and flats to the north of the Laguna Madre where the fish feed in shallows. Because the extremely clear and shallow water in these areas mimic that of the Florida Keys or some other more exotic destination, visiting fishermen to the Laguna Madre are often pleasantly surprised that this high level and plentiful fishing is available right here on the Texas coast. |
