PORT ISABEL

Port Isabel is the oldest city in south Texas with a colorful history dating back to 1519. Once inhabited by the likes of pirates and Indians, today’s Port Isabel boasts a population known for warmth, friendliness, and south Texas charm.

Perhaps the most prominent landmark along the Texas Gulf Coast is the Point Isabel Lighthouse, originally constructed in 1852.  Its heavy brick walls have weathered the elements for more than a century, and for most of this time, its beacon has been a welcome and familiar sight for seafarers.

In addition to its historic heritage, Port Isabel offers today’s visitor a wide spectrum of dining options, unique shops, and an array of water sports, including kayaking, jet skiing, shelling, beach combing, and eco-cruises.

Getting here is easy.  Leaving isn’t.

Just 15 minutes away is Cameron County Airport, built to accommodate most any type of private aircraft, featuring a runway in excess of 8,000 feet long.  Also, there are convenient commercial aviation airports in nearby Harlingen and Brownsville.
